About Us


FECT Maldives works to support climate research, environmental monitoring, and disaster risk awareness in the Maldives and the surrounding Indian Ocean region. The initiative focuses on improving understanding of climate variability, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events affecting small island states. Through climate information services, research activities, and public communication, FECT Maldives contributes to strengthening climate resilience and informed decision-making.

The staff affiliated with us, and the networks of organizations possess expertise in the relevant fields of climate, water resources management, disaster risk management, energy conservation and management, and we are uniquely positioned to contribute to the successful implementation of the above project. Our vision is to make FECT-MV a repository of scientific expertise related to climate and environment and a driver of further research and development.

Afaaf

Aishath Afaaf

Aishath Afaaf has been with FECT Maldives since its formal inception. She is a graduate of the precursor of the Maldives National University with a bachelors and from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka under its Masters in Development Practice program. She has worked in international bodies, government and various NGO’s in the Maldives such as the Red Cross, International Organization of Migrants, the NGO forum.  She was attached to FECT Sri Lanka during her stay in Peradeniya.  She has supported projects under the Ministry of Environment.

Hudha Ahmed

Ms. Ahmed has more than 20 years of experience in environmental management and conservation across government, UNDP, and the private sector. Her major areas of work include fisheries, biodiversity conservation, climate change, and energy projects. She has experience in policy formulation in the energy and environment sectors in the Maldives. Working closely with the Ministry of Environment, energy is developing policy and regulation on waste management and renewable energy, particularly working with the Maldives Energy Authority on testing new regulations on renewable energy and providing feedback from the perspective of the private sector to improve guidelines and regulations.

Shifaz Mohamed

Shifaz Mohamed is an experienced educator and school administrator with a strong background in mathematics and physics education in the Maldives. He holds a Bachelor of Teaching Secondary (Mathematics and Physics) from the Faculty of Education at the Maldives College of Higher Education (MCHE) in Malé. Over the years, he has served in several academic roles, including Physics and Mathematics Teacher, Visiting Lecturer at Maldives Polytechnic, Leader Teacher at Dharumavantha School, and currently Principal of GA. Dhaandhoo School since 2015. His professional experience includes teaching, academic coordination, conducting examinations, supervising student learning, organizing school activities, and supporting teacher development. He has also contributed to national education initiatives, including participating in the Ministry of Education’s expatriate teacher recruitment program, where he interviewed hundreds of teachers in India. His career reflects a long-standing dedication to improving secondary education, leadership in school management, and strengthening science and mathematics learning.
