Monitored:
In Aug, the Northern, Central and Southern islands received 10- 12 mm of average rainfall. The highest daily rainfall was in the Central and Southern islands on 20 August with a peak of 30 mm. SST- Sea surface temperature (SST) around the Northern and Central islands were 0.5°C above-normal.
Predictions:
El Niño conditions have developed into a strong condition by August and will continue to intensify into a very strong El Niño by December 2026- February 2027. Rainfall- From 12-15 September, Southern and Central islands are expected to receive heavy rainfall of 70-200 mm. From September-November, there is a 50% & 45% likelihood of Northern and Central islands receiving above-normal rainfall respectively due to the El Niño influence. However, there is a 40% likelihood of Southern islands receiving below-normal.
